Very special players tend to have what it takes to become well-known within the Barcelona academy. Both La Masia and the subsidiary of the club are renowned for producing top talents, but some stand out from even among them. Those who do tend to go on to do great things for Barcelona.

Lamine Yamal was one of those names, and so was Pau Cubarsi at a time. Looking at the progression made by both of them, it is clear to see exactly why there is always so much excitement behind new names that continue to grab attention even while playing in the Barcelona quarry.

One such name that has emerged in recent months is that of Guille Fernandez. The 15-year-old midfield, already making headlines for overtaking Lamine Yamal’s record as the youngest-ever debutant in the history of Barcelona Atletic, continues to reach new heights.

As highlighted by SPORT, he is gradually making himself a regular for Rafa Marquez. Despite being at the age where one would normally represent Cadet A, Guille Fernandez is instead asserting himself as a reliable asset for the coach of Barcelona B itself.

In their latest outing against SD Tarazona, Fernandez was a starter for Marquez’s side as well. Deployed as the second interior next to Unai Hernandez, the young 15-year-old had quite the outing as the decisive goal that ended up giving Barcelona Atletic the victory came through an assist provided by Fernandez himself.

Even his coach at Barcelona B, Rafa Marquez, had nothing but words of praise for him as well: “There is a very good group of players coming from the Juvenil A and B teams. One of them is Guille. He has all the qualities and can play in different positions. The confidence with which he plays and the quality he possesses is exceptional.”

Despite being just 15, Guille Fernandez is noted for having an impressive physique. Able to dominate opponents even above his age group in physical duels, he is also a very dynamic midfielder. Unless traditional Barcelona midfielders who are reliant on their first touch and control, Fernandez is a player who thrives more so in chaotic situations.

With an ability to provide extraordinary passes that others would not dare to attempt, he also has the ability to shoot powerful strikes from distance that manage to always keep their opponents on their toes.

All of these qualities make Fernandez one of the most exciting prospects Barcelona has seen in years, and his journey to the very top has only just begun as he is expected to now be a key part of Barça Atletic in this crucial stretch of the season.
