The recent loss to Athletic Club comes with its own unique heartbreaks for Barcelona. Arguably their best shot at a title this season, even the Copa Del Ray is now lost as a result. However, for Barcelona, this match came with a lot of hard lessons that they have to learn.

Yet, arguably no player has had to go through it worse than young Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old was the orchestrator of a great equalizer against Athletic Club. By taking the ball and cutting in from the right wing with great awareness and swiftness, he executed his strides to perfection.

The next step, however, was where most veterans manage to fail as well. But Lamine Yamal is no ordinary player, and he managed to showcase that with an accurate and powerful finish into the bottom corner. An injection of joy and hope was given to Barcelona, but it did not last long.

Two chances, one more clear than the other, also fell to Yamal later in the game. However, unfortunately for him, neither ended up in the back of the net. Now, as Mundo Deportivo has highlighted, they managed to impact him so adversely that he published a public apology.

“We left everything and it did not happen. Sorry culers for the mistakes. We have to continue working, I don’t know any other way.”

The words of the 16-year-old were sincere and heartfelt. Unfiltered and not yet corrupted by the ways of the footballing world, he was a player who took accountability at his young age. This undoubtedly comes as a pleasant surprise to the fans, who took to social media and showed their support.

Even as MD highlights, the youngster was Barça’s brightest spot against Athletic Club. He continued his fine performance against Betis and carried it over to this game. While everything did not go to plan, he was the sole reason Barcelona were even there to dream.
