While it is true that FC Barcelona remains committed to improving their squad, they have various means to do so. Bringing in top signings of proven quality is one of those ways, but it is far from the only one.
Given the financial nature of the reality of things at Barcelona right now, their best bet in recent times has been up-and-coming youngsters.
This belief in the potential and ability of their youngsters to rise to the occasion is what has kept Barcelona afloat. However, it is not only homegrown talents who have earned enough of Barça’s trust for them to count on those players, with even foreign youngsters managing to make their way to La Blaugrana.
Now, in the latest update provided by Mundo Deportivo, another one of Barça’s foreign operations may soon make his decision about his future. Jorthy Mokio, aged 16, is a Belgian defender who plays in his home country for local club Genk, and this particular player has been a valuable target for Barcelona as per the information that came out in May.
The Belgian defender has even seen his entourage already meet with Deco. With direct conversations already having been done with Barcelona, it is seen as a serious operation in which the Catalan club has taken proper consideration.
Today, it is expected that he will play his final game of the season with his current Belgian side. As a parting gift, he has the chance to potentially help them land a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League, something that would be a massive boost for Genk as a club to confirm a European place.
FC Barcelona, however, are not the only team to be interested in the 16-year-old defender. While they consider him a valuable addition to the subsidiary if he arrives, and have hopes for him to make it to the first team potentially, there are other clubs with better financial offers out there and they will undoubtedly make young Mokio consider the alternatives to Barcelona.
