FC Barcelona are working tirelessly to ensure that their absent players return as soon as possible. The Catalan giants currently have many big names unavailable for selection, and their loss could be a significant blow to the objectives of FC Barcelona.
With Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Jules Kounde, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Frenkie De Jong, and Alejandro Balde all currently injured, the Barcelona casualty list seems to have reached new lengths. However, what is done can not simply be undone. Hence, Barcelona can only work on things under their control.
One of these things is appointing a talented youngster to act as a backup to an established star. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, 17-year-old Hector Fort is doing his best to become Cancelo’s alternative at the right-back position.
Still quite young, Fort has already managed to become integral to Rafa Marquez’s Barcelona Atletic. Starting seven out of the seven games that he has played, he is currently an extremely positive figure who continues to perform despite the shakey form of the Barcelona subsidiary side.
Arriving from Deportivo de la Coruna this very summer, the young teenage right-back is showing a lot of promise. Hoping to prove to Xavi Hernandez that he can be a great name to count on, this is the season where he attempts to showcase his caliber to the first-team coaches.
The injuries to both Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde in particular could be crucial for him. The upcoming game against Athletic Bilbao may just be his moment to shine. Given that neither of Balde nor Kounde are expected to partake in this game, Hector Fort may just be chosen to represent the first team against the Basque opposition.
New blood is always welcome within the first team. However, proving one’s caliber is often the hardest thing to do. Given Fort’s determination and good form, it seems a matter of when rather than if that Xavi Hernandez allows him to finally represent the first team.
