It seems that the prodigies of FC Barcelona are attracting more than just praise. Undoubtedly a rather gifted bunch of talents, these new faces from the subsidiary are basking in the European lights. However, with attraction comes a fear of the worst, something Barcelona are not foreign to.

One of the talents who is generating a lot of noise happens to be Pau Cubarsi. Now aged 17 after his recent birthday, the youth defender is someone who is now within the folds of the first team. Despite his tender age, Barcelona believe that his quality and maturity far surpass his age.

In turn, this allowed him to debut as a starter against Real Betis in Barça’s last clash. Playing a great deal of the game, his passing and defending were quite noteworthy. An absolute warrior in defense, but also possessing the graceful touch of a technician.

However, these qualities have not gone unnoticed by those outside of Barcelona. One of the many names that reportedly has been quite intrigued by the young central defender is that of Pep Guardiola.

According to AS, even before his debut, the current Manchester City coach has intently been following his progression. For the former Barcelona coach, Cubarsi offers a very attractive prospect to follow.

However, for Barcelona themselves, this is a massive warning sign. Joan Laporta, president of the club, intends on keeping Cubarsi at Barça and ensuring he builds his own legacy here.

In this past summer, Cubarsi even signed his first professional contract with Barcelona. This specific contract keeps him obligated to Barça until 2026, more than two years from now. Moreover, his progression through the youth ranks and his affiliation with the club also works in favor of Barcelona.

Defined as a ‘mixture’ of Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, there is no doubt of the boy’s projection. Already a great blend of technical brilliance and defensive vigilance, the 17-year-old matches his game attributes with his physical prowess.

In the most recent update for Cubarsi, he has been included by Xavi in the squad list for the Athletic Bilbao clash. While Andreas Christensen has also returned, the youngster’s last game against Betis is a solid precedent that works in his own favor.
