With their strained finances keeping them from signing more established players, FC Barcelona have been relying a lot on young talents lately. The current team under Xavi Hernandez is full of players who started at a very young age but have developed by leaps and bounds to become key players for a club as big as Barcelona.
In addition to these financial pressures, the Catalans also have a tradition of developing and promoting youth talent, which also pushes Barcelona to pursue a policy of relying more on young emerging players.
In this regard, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have been linked with another youngster who is expected to reach the top in years to come. This youngster is David Oduro, currently owned by the Ghanaian club, Accra Lions.
The left-back is currently playing on trial for a few weeks at FC Barcelona’s youth setup. Before joining the Catalan side, he impressed with the English club Chelsea, where he also spent some weeks on trial. After Barcelona, he is expected to end his European tour in Germany, with a trial scheduled with Bayern Munich.
His current club, Accra Lions, is owned by one of the legends of the Bavarian club, Lothar Matthaus. Thus, the German is very well acquainted with the talent that Oduro possesses, and according to the journalist Christian Falk, Lothar compared him with one of the best players in his position currently:
“Lottar has compared the player to Alphonso Davies and described him as a very fast footballer with very interesting offensive qualities.”
Oduro is going to turn 18 years of age this coming December, after which he will be able to sign for any European team. Thus, his case is very similar to that of the Malian forward, Ibrahim Diarra, who is also going to turn 18 in December, and is expected to join FC Barcelona.
