Faith in the youth of tomorrow is a unique virtue possessed by FC Barcelona. While many clubs do lean to rely on their prodigious talents, it is something special for La Blaugrana in its entirety. Promising starlets from their own academy within the first team as well as incorporating talents from elsewhere.
However, in recent times, it has become much more than a luxury of possessing great talents. Given their financial limitations, Barcelona now look at these young starlets as a necessity. No longer able to compete in the most extravagant auctions, Barça are forced to rely on low-cost acquisitions.
In certain ways, betting on youngsters is indeed a low-cost alternative to pursuing the biggest names in Europe. However, the timing of doing it also needs to be exactly right. Once a player becomes too exceptionally well-known, their market price tends to rise exponentially. However, buying an unproven player too soon is extremely risky in its own way.
However, as Mundo Deportivo reports, it seems that a new face has caught the eye of Barcelona. Lucas Bergvall, aged 17, is seen as one of the most promising revelations of Swedish football in recent times.
The young midfielder is seen as being exceptional for his age in terms of his pure footballing capabilities. Physically a formidable player, he accompanies that strength with pure footballing skill. An accurate passer with a great variety of range in his arsenal, Bergvall is undeniably a truly special talent.
At the moment, he remains contracted to Swedish side Djurgårdens IF until 2025. Having only arrived at his current club this year for €900,000, the player is seen as a great talent in the making.
FC Barcelona remain interested in him, but are simultaneously met with the interest of both Manchester United and Inter Milan in him as well.
Deco, the Sporting Director of Barcelona, has reportedly already made initial contacts as well. Trying to understand where the goals of the player lie as well as the idea of a possible transfer, early waters are being tested at a gradual speed. However, for now, nothing concrete is being reported.
From the player’s side, it is understood that the 17-year-old definitely seems to have a liking towards Barcelona. This could ultimately give Barça the edge over their other rivals for his signature, but the financial aspect of such a transfer is something that still needs to be evaluated.
