It would appear that unfortunate timings at FC Barcelona continue to accumulate. Just as the Blaugranes need more and more of their injured players to return in time for the crucial phase of the season, Barcelona are now left with figuring out how to compete without some of their most important players.
Early on in the season, it was the defense where Barcelona saw a lot of players injured. That created its own unique branch of troubles, but now the same troubles are being replicated on the other end of the field as well. With several forwards now injured, Barcelona have a lot of worries moving forward.
Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and Joao Felix are all currently unavailable for selection. In their place, youngsters like Lamine Yamal and Vitor Roque have had to step up. Now, it seems that even Vitor Roque could be absent from the next game due to suspension.
While Barça will appeal that decision with some good hopes, they need a contingency plan for if things go wrong. That is where Marc Guiu would ideally have come in as the perfect replacement. However, even that option is now compromised for Barcelona.
As highlighted by SPORT, Marc Guiu suffered an injury in the latest game of Barcelona Atletic against SD Logrones. A league match in which the talented forward did not start, he arrived close to the 72nd minute in the match with the score already 1-0 in favor of Barcelona.
However, not too long after his arrival, the player felt some clear discomfort in his leg. A ‘puncture’ was the sensation according to the description provided by SPORT. It seemed difficult for him to continue with that injury, but he was ultimately forced to.
This was due to the fact that all available changes had been made by Rafa Marquez. Thus, Guiu had to complete the match by putting in extra effort and playing through the pain. Ultimately, both Guiu and the match became compromised, as beyond just the injury the team also conceded a late goal to see the game end 1-1.
Now, with Xavi possibly having hoped to be able to count on the 18-year-old forward for the next game, that option now looks less and less likely. Unless Vitor Roque has his suspension overturned, Xavi is basically left with just Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski has his two available forwards.
He is now set to undergo medical tests today to understand the extent of his injury. At the moment, there is no telling when exactly he could return, but for the sake of Barcelona, it is hoped that the injury is not too severe.
