In the market currently looking for a right-back, FC Barcelona already have a list of potential candidates that they wish to pursue before the end of the summer transfer window in the hopes of acquiring a top-level acquisition to reinforce the position as requested by coach Xavi Hernandez.
The Catalan giants continue to prioritize 29-year-old Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo, but there are others also on the list of alternatives. One, in particular, remains a goal for Barcelona to bring in regardless of what happens with the Cancelo operation.
18-year-old Real Valladolid fullback Ivan Fresneda is a great target for FC Barcelona given his potential at such a young age that is seen to have the capabilities to exponentially grow with time and the right development.
However, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old will not wait forever for FC Barcelona and expects to know by the beginning of the upcoming week if the Catalans truly wish to pursue him or not in a feasible manner or if he should look elsewhere so as to not remain jeopardized by the late timing of Barcelona.
Having already reportedly rejected Atletico Madrid, the player now attracts heavy interest from both Chelsea and Sporting CP of Portugal, with the English club looking to lure him away on a loan deal as well. Barcelona continue to struggle with Financial fair play, otherwise, they would have already been in an advanced position to take away Fresneda from Real Valladolid.
Currently, his established release clause has dropped to €20 million from the previous standing €40 million due to the relegation of Real Valladolid to the Segunda Division. Barcelona have already made an offer of €8 million fixed alongside additional add-ons, yet Valladolid ended up rejecting the offer.
The inclusion of Barcelona academy winger Estanis Pedrola was also considered at a point, but the player ultimately ended up moving to Italian side Sampdoria.
FC Barcelona will primarily look to wrap up the Cancelo case, which many reports suggest is already quite advanced and likely to be wrapped up soon between Barcelona and Manchester City, and then may look to prioritize the signing of Fresneda with a new offer for the 18-year-old.
