This season for FC Barcelona has been full of a lot of ups and many more downs. Even Xavi Hernandez, at one point, considered leaving the team beyond this season. However, the Barcelona coach has finally been convinced to stay, much to the joy of the locker room.
Yet, there are also those who see the Barcelona coach for more than just being a club legend. For many of the team’s aspiring youngsters, Xavi represents a window of opportunity, a coach who is willing to test the waters with his young pearls regardless of how seasoned or talented their opponents might be.
One name in particular who wants to continue fighting for Barcelona and Xavi is Marc Guiu. The young academy striker is among the talented few who got to showcase their talents to the world on the biggest stages of them all courtesy of Xavi’s unrelenting faith in his abilities.
However, the 18-year-old is still far from being an irreplaceable first-team starter. Unlike Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, Guiu has primarily played as a substitute this season, and that too only on special occasions. Yet, according to SPORT, he is more than confident about his future at Barcelona and does not intend to move away.
In fact, his continuity at the club is reportedly even more advanced than the situations of Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort. Despite having only played 182 minutes for the first team across this entire season, Guiu believes himself to be ready to take on whatever challenge Xavi throws his way next season instead of backing out right now.
The same report claims that while the young Barcelona striker has interesting offers from elsewhere as well, his intentions are to continue with Barça next season and agree to an extension beyond his current contract which runs until 2025.
For him, Brazilian prodigy Vitor Roque represents healthy competition. Instead of backing out and letting his young South American teammate take the spotlight, Guiu is ready to fight for it and already believes he has the edge when it comes to being Xavi’s preference between the two aspiring strikers. However, only time and effort will tell who prevails between the two Barcelona gems.
