In the last summer transfer window, the most talked about subject related to FC Barcelona remained the Catalan club’s links with the Athletic Club winger, Nico Williams. The Blaugranes were strongly linked with the recent EURO 2024 winner, but were ultimately unable to get him in their team.
Meanwhile, there was another forward that Barcelona tried to sign throughout the window for their Juvenil A team, Jan Virgili. The Catalans had been trying since last June to sign the promising Nastic winger, but as opposed to Nico Williams, successfully completed this operation in August.
This signing can go on to have a great impact for Barcelona, as Mundo Deportivo reports that the youngster has performed very well in his first appearances in his new club.
He played his first official match with Juvenil A against Huesca last week and scored two goals. These two goals were scored with his two different feet. The first one came as he started from the right and placed the ball with accuracy and the second one came as he completed a counter-attack which had left him one-on-one with the opposition keeper.
Then, on Tuesday, Hansi Flick called him up to train with the first team. However, he did not train under Flick as the German tactician was in Madrid for a coaches’ meeting.
Jan Virgili is a versatile forward who can play on both wings and also as a number 9. The 18-year-old Spaniard joined Nastic’s youth team back in 2022, and had an explosive last season as he scored 18 goals in 28 games to help his side get promoted to the Division de Honor.
These performances attracted the attention of some bigger sides, and Barcelona were ultimately able to sign him for a small initial fee, which can go higher if some variables are met in the future.
