Following the confirmations from various reliable journalists regarding Barcelona and the transfer of Inigo Martinez from Athletic Bilbao as well as the completion of the player’s medical examination, it now seems that the second signing of the summer has also been completed.
The first signing being a center-back, it was expected that FC Barcelona would now be advancing in other directions and attempting to recruit and bring in players for the midfield or forward positions, but reality has ended up being quite the opposite.
As per the ever-reliable Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are set to complete the signing of “highly talented center-back” Mikayil Faye from NK Kustosija for an estimated fee in the region of €5 million plus additional variables.
Playing in the Croatian second division for NK Kustosija, the 18-year-old has made a strong name for himself and has consequently attracted not just FC Barcelona, but also the likes of English Premier League side Chelsea and German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Standing at 6’1 and having already represented Senegal at the Under-17 level, it is thought that Mateu Alemany is possibly the main name behind the operation and it is his belief that through the signing of Faye as per a recent report from SPORT.
The club hopes that they can potentially reproduce results akin to those of Pedri and Ronald Araujo’s signings, reflecting a talented signing being brought in for reasonably low fees and then seeing their transfer value skyrocket over the next few seasons.
Faye officially will soon become the second signing of the club for the summer, with reports suggesting Ilkay Gundogan will be next on the agenda following the UEFA Champions League final where Manchester City reigned supreme.
