Barcelona youngster Lucas Roman

19-year-old Argentine gem continues to impress for Barcelona Atletic – report

FC Barcelona have a long going tradition to getting and developing the best footballing talents in the world, and this tradition is still alive and thriving at the club.

The Catalans are always on the alert regarding any player who shows the potential to become a world class player, and its academy, La Masia, and its subsidiary teams have been turning out high quality players for decades.

Keeping true to this tradition, Barcelona are not shy to invest in highly talented players for their youth teams. One of the players that Barcelona bought recently for the Barcelona Atletic team was Lucas Roman, who is shining with the Barcelona subsidiary.

Roman’s first six months with Barcelona

FC Barcelona bought the Argentine youngster from the Club Ferro Carril Oeste in January this year, for a fixed fee of €1.2 million and a further €3.5 million promised in variables. If the objectives for these variables are met, the Catalans will have 85% right over the player till 2026.

The Argentine has been at the Catalan club since January, but his first few months have not been the best. He has undergone a period of adaption in these last months, as he barely played around one hundred minutes in his eleven appearances for the Barcelona B team.

Roman scored a single goal in these minutes, but this goal was highly significant as it provided Barcelona with three points against Real Union last season.

Player growing at his new club

In this regard, SPORT reports that in recent days, Roman has shown clear signs of further growth and development. The youngster has scored two goals in the last two unofficial games against Lleida Esportiu and Valencia Mestalla, while also giving an assist in the latter match.

While these were not competitive matches, Roman’s involvement with the team is a good sign showing his growth. The player himself recognizes that he has been growing lately, as he commented recently:

“The first six months were challenging for me, but thanks to the team’s and the coach’s confidence to keep working day by day, now I feel very good. This continues, and we’re going for more.”

Roman can be a highly effective piece this season for Rafa Marquez, especially with his speed and skills to beat defenders with the ball. How Marquez uses and develops this youngster further can be seen this season, as Barcelona Atletic kick-off their campaign with a match against SD Logrones next Sunday.
