19-year-old Barcelona Golden Boy was a PSG target this summer – report

Barcelona youngster Gavi

With what has already been an interesting summer for FC Barcelona in terms of completed operations, ongoing negotiations, and even unforeseen surprises, more news consistently becomes unveiled as time passes.

Having already had to deal with French outfit Paris Saint-Germain for the unexpected transfer of 26-year-old French winger Ousmane Dembele, the Parisian club and Barcelona continue to have a strained relationship.

Even recently, the news of former Barcelona hero Neymar Jr wishing to leave PSG for the Catalan giants has reached the French media, and it has subsequently left the 31-year-old’s father, Neymar Da Silva Santos, frustrated simultaneously.

However, it seems the possible connections between the club from Barcelona and the French side do not just end there. According to a particular Spanish outlet, it would appear that PSG made an inquiry about a certain Barcelona gem this summer as well.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Paris Saint-Germain did not simply stop their concerns with Barcelona following the capture of Ousmane Dembele, but then continued to probe and enquire through a trusted intermediary regarding the possibility of taking away 19-year-old La Masia gem Gavi as well.

The 2022 Golden Boy winner remains one of the most prized possessions of Barcelona, and continues to be valued highly by coach Xavi Hernandez within this revolutionised Barcelona side.

PSG’s thought process, as per MD, evolved from the fact that they believe the player is set to become a more sidelined player heading into the new season due to both new arrivals as well as him no longer being one of the ‘untouchables’ at the club.

Moreover, the personal connections between new PSG and former Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique with Gavi and his representatives also tempted the Parisian club to make advancements, while simultaneously considering that the 19-year-old may be losing importance within the team as he was unable to play during the pre-season due to back problems.

However, all of these claims and thoughts are of no concern to Barcelona, as both the club and Xavi Hernandez continue to put faith in the youngster and provide him with the assurance that he remains one of the most integral parts of Xavi’s plans moving forward.
