FC Barcelona are one of the main European clubs that continue to rely on promising youngsters and upcoming stars to ensure the assembly of a competitive team. As such, keeping their eyes and ears open to upcoming young gems is key for a club like Barca.

The names of Arthur Vermeeren and others such as Hugo Sotelo have recently been linked to Barcelona and hold much weight given the quality of the youngsters involved. However, it appears that yet another has joined the fray of talented young stars that the Catalans reportedly have taken a liking to.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, FC Barcelona have taken a particular liking towards 19-year-old Brazilian forward Savio Moreira de Oliveira, or simply Savio or Savinho. The talents of the youngster have numerous heads turning in La Liga as he continues to shine bright for Michel’s Girona.

On loan from Ligue 2 club Troyes, the 19-year-old Brazilian talent possesses great dribbling prowess already within his arsenal and ball control that is almost enviable.

His scoring touch was on display as well against Granada in a league clash recently. Thus far, even his assist tally stands at two, not a bad number for a 19-year-old’s early days in Spain.

Currently valued at €5 million by Transfermarkt, Barcelona see the young Brazilian as a future investment. However, Girona and the other clubs with ties to the ‘City Group’ have already taken advantage of their scouting in order to bring in Savinho.

When Troyes originally captured the Barcelona target from his former club, Club Atletico Mineiro, they paid close to €6.5 million for his arrival and it is expected that this value will only continue to rise exponentially as he continues to perform for Girona.

An early record of the player also showcases just how special of a talent he is. During the 2020/21 season, when the player first broke into the Atletico Mineiro first team, he was coached by Jorge Sampaoli himself.

The Argentine manager is understood to be among the elites, and even he regarded Savinho as a special talent and began to give him chances to shine at only 16 years of age. To further prove his faith in the youngster, his words of praise must still resonate with the Brazilian talent.

“He’s a very young player with a bright future. He has been training alongside his teammates, and we know his ability… we have a lot of confidence in him for the future.”
