19-year-old defender renews his contract with Barcelona until 2028 – Romano

Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde

FC Barcelona have an important task on their hands in the form of the contract renewals that are still pending. There are some players in the squad who are highly important for Xavi’s plans, but whose contracts are ending next year.

One such player is Alejandro Balde, who has been one of the revelations for FC Barcelona last season. The player was a mainstay in Xavi’s squad and was an integral part of the Barcelona backline that played a very significant part in helping the club win the La Liga title last season.

His contract with the club was going to expire in 2024, raising some alarm at the club. However, Fabrizio Romano claims that Balde has already signed the contract renewal with FC Barcelona. His new contract has a term of five years and will keep him at the club till 2028.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona will officially announce Balde’s contract renewal only after returning from the USA tour.

With his performances, Balde had been the subject of interest from clubs across Europe. In recent days, there had been news of the current European Champions, Manchester City, trying to woo the defender to come to the Premier League.

However, the defender had not listened to any such offer, and this new contract, along with his commitment to the club, will be enough to ensure his stay at the Catalan club.

With this contract renewal operation successfully completed, FC Barcelona have met one of the major objectives for this summer. Now the Catalan club can rest assured that their left-back position is covered for years to come, as Balde is still only nineteen years old, and can play at the highest level for years to come.
