Fermin Lopez has been one of the breakout stars at FC Barcelona this season, along with Lamine Yamal. Both these youngsters have been playing an important role in Xavi’s squad, and are getting significant opportunities to get on the pitch despite their tender years.
Having come from La Masia, Fermin Lopez is not only a player at the Catalan club, but also one of its biggest fans. This was clear from the recent interview that has been reported by SPORT, where he talked about Xavi, his memories of Barcelona, and other aspects related to the club.
Lopez had all his trust in Xavi and when asked whether Xavi should be a Ferguson at Barcelona, the youngster replied:
“Hopefully. He was the one who gave me the confidence and opportunity to be living what I’m living, and I’d be delighted for it.”
The youngster was also asked about a specific goal that he imagines himself to be scoring, and Lopez had the biggest stage in European football in his mind:
“No idea… In a Champions League final. Against Real Madrid? If that’s possible… If not, against whichever team.”
Lopez also recalled his favorite memory of a match in Barcelona’s history:
“When Messi, Iniesta, Busquets, Xavi were in the team… One match? The 5-0 against Real Madrid at Camp Nou, the one with Piqué’s hand gesture, with Mourinho on Madrid’s bench.”
The midfielder also talked about Lewandowski and how he always tries to help out the team:
“He’s impressive! He always tries to help, even though something came up with Lamine, but everyone tries to assist, especially those with more experience like Robert or Gündogan.”
“They help the youngsters a lot. Have any veterans scolded me? When they’ve had to tell me something, obviously, they did.“
Other highlights of the interview included Lopez claiming that no one in the Real Madrid squad is good enough to come to Barcelona and that the team does not think too much of referees’ decisions.
Lopez does not frequently comes up in the media spotlight, and this interview will allow his fans to get a good idea of how Lopez actually is as a player and a person.
