One of the players who has broken out at FC Barcelona this season is the youngster, Fermin Lopez. The La Masia graduate has come from being almost an unknown player during the last season to becoming a highly trusted player at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Xavi gave the youngster a chance in the pre-season, and Fermin took this opportunity with both hands to gain the Barcelona head coach’s trust.
He performed above expectations in the pre-season tour of the USA, and his goal against Real Madrid in the Dallas friendly was one of the most memorable moments from the USA tour.
With his impressive performances in the pre-season, Lopez was given a renewal, which will now keep him with the Catalan club till 2028. However, this contract is still that of a youth player and keeps him a part of Barcelona Atletic.
Yet, the player has not appeared for Rafa Marquez’s side since match day three against Nastic, when he received two yellow cards and was a part of the first team.
While the high number of injuries suffered by members of the Barcelona first team have played a role in his long stay with Xavi’s squad, the Barcelona head coach is also very happy with Fermin’s work on a day-to-day basis and also with the time that he gets on the pitch.
According to SPORT, Xavi is also going to keep on counting on the youngster in the coming weeks and considers him practically to be a first-team player. The youngster is also liked well by the members of the first team locker room.
While Gavi’s injury will play a part in how Fermin Lopez is utilized by Xavi in the coming weeks, that is not the only factor that will make Xavi keep counting on Lopez.
