For the last few seasons, FC Barcelona have been seeing an increased involvement of players from their youth academy playing an important role in the first team.

Lamine Yamal has exploded onto the scene this season with Barcelona and has already reached several milestones and broken a few records due to his youth and performance at the highest level.

In addition to him, Fermin Lopez has also been given a prominent role by Xavi, and while not as famous as Yamal, Lopez has also reached some career milestones in recent days.

Fermin Lopez called up for Spain U-21

According to SPORT, the youngster has made another major career achievement today as he has been called up by Santi Denia for the upcoming two matches of the Spain U-21 team. This is the first time that Lopez has been called up to represent Spain internationally.

Thus, Fermin Lopez will make his international debut with the U-21 side, after already having made his La Liga and UEFA Champions League debut with Barcelona.

Lopez reaping benefits of his patience

Fermin is now reaping the fruits of his patience earlier in his career. He opted to play away on loan last season as it was clear that he would not have many chances with Barca Atlètic, but now is already playing frequently with the first team.

Lopez will be hoping to continue on this current trajectory and also get a call-up for the senior Spain side. For now, he will have to keep growing and gaining the trust of his coaches in Barcelona and the national team.

With his first call-up, Fermin Lopez’s team will be facing against Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in the coming week. Spain is looking to qualify for the European U-21 Championship, and have Belgium, Scotland, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Malta in their group.
