With FC Barcelona set to begin their pre-season soon, as the team prepares for their upcoming tour of the United States of America, the club is yet to decide the finalized plans for a set number of key details.

While transfers and other such operations remain consistently worked upon, one key detail that the players and direct sporting staff will be looking particularly forward to is the election of the new captains that are set to replace the departed Spanish duo of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

The two veterans were among the four captains of Barcelona last season, and while Gerard Pique was also among the leading four prior to his retirement last season, his place was taken over by German goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

For now, the two vacancies remain those of the third and fourth captain, given that the previous third captain Sergi Roberto takes over as the first captain for next season by default.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, one such player that could end up securing the votes from the returning players and those already present to become the new third captain is 20-year-old midfield prodigy Pedri.

A leader of sorts already for Barcelona, it is reported that many from within the Catalan club look to him during many instances. Moreover, he is a leader by example, given his proven quality and maturity well beyond his years. The youngster is among the many candidates possibly being touted to be one of the chosen four leaders for next season.

Other players also eligible for the position based on seniority within the club in terms of their respective stays at Barcelona would be Ousmane Dembele and Frenkie De Jong, however the former has previously mentioned he is not particularly invested in upholding such a responsibility.

There also exists the possibility of both Ronald Araujo and Robert Lewandowski attaining the captaincies at Barcelona due to their strong characters and the respect they’ve managed to earn within the dressing room. It remains to be seen which two players eventually end up getting voted to become the new captains, but it remains an exciting wait.
