FC Barcelona came out victorious in their Joan Gamper Trophy tie against Tottenham Hotspurs last night, and one of the players who scored last night was Ansu Fati. The young Spaniard has been struggling for form for the last two seasons but seems to have gotten in his groove during the last few matches.
After a promising start to his Barcelona career, Fati has seen his performances dip after having suffered several injuries and the club using him only warily because of his physical problems. As a result, the player has not been able to perform to his best, and the club has been contemplating a sale which would help them mitigate their severe economic problems.
As SPORT reports, Xavi had kept the door open for his departure before the summer transfer window closes at the end of August. Their report further mentions that the Catalan club has received interest from a Premier League side, who would be willing to pay €50 million for the forward.
There are also suitors for Fati in Saudi Arabia who can spend big bucks for him. However, the player himself is fully committed to remaining at FC Barcelona and fighting for a role in the squad and is not contemplating any of these offers.
Fati has recovered a bit of form in the last few matches, but Barcelona coaches are clear that he is not a starter and he will only get sparse minutes during the next season. Thus, Barcelona and the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, both believe that a change of scenery would be the best for Fati to keep on growing.
Mendes had already arranged a move to the Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers, earlier this summer, for an exchange with Ruben Neves, but the youngster remained firm in his stance of continuing at Barcelona.
Similarly, Raphinha and Ferran Torres are also in no mood to leave the Catalan club, and Xavi would thus have ample attackers at his disposal for the next season despite Dembele’s looming exit.
The next season would be crucial for Fati, as there is high competition for attacking places at the club, and he will also have to prove his worth to impress Xavi and the club.
