There have been a number of high-potential names coming out of the ranks at FC Barcelona in recent years, and Nico Gonzalez is one the brightest of these names. However, with the midfield already stacked at Barcelona, the club would have to make a decision regarding Nico’s future at the end of the season.
Nico is currently on loan at Valencia, and after a promising start, this season went off the tracks owing to an injury that set him on the sidelines for a long period of time. Having been trained at La Masia, Nico had exploded in Garcia Pimienta’s side, before catching the eye of Ronald Koeman, who called him up for first-team action.
However, with Xavi’s appointment, he saw his role in the squad getting more limited, especially after other players like Pedri and Gavi proved themselves to be even better options. Thus, Nico went to Valencia, but he still dreams of succeeding at Camp Nou.
This dream is increasingly getting likelier to not come true, as the Catalan giants find themselves in deep waters economically. To solve their financial fair play problems, they may look to sell Nico to generate some funds in the form of a fee and also to lighten their wage bill.
SPORT reports that a number of clubs have shown interest in Nico, and one of these clubs interested in the youngster is Sevilla. Nico’s contract ends in June 2024, so the Catalan club would have to find a way to either sell or renew the midfielder if they do not want him to leave the club for free.
