Pablo Torre joined FC Barcelona from Racing Santander in July 2022, and a year later, the young midfielder headed out on a season-long loan at Girona. Torre was back in the first-team squad in the summer of 2024, with some expectation that another loan was on the cards, but the Spain U-21 international stayed put. However, after limited first-team minutes in the first half of 2024/25, a January exit could be sanctioned.
Torre, 21, is a player for whom Barcelona and Spain have high hopes. The midfielder, who can play centrally and wide left, has already racked up plenty of senior football experience, but when he’s not playing, there’s a chance his progress will stall. At the time of writing, Torre has nine appearances to his name this season, seven in La Liga and two in the Champions League, but this only amounts to 267 minutes and four starts.
Looking at La Liga more closely, a league that most believe Barcelona have an excellent chance of winning this season, Torre has been in 17 squads, made 4 starts, and appeared as a substitute 3 times, remaining on the bench in the other 10 games.
Across his 248 minutes for Hansi Flick’s side in LaLiga, Torre has scored three goals and made one assist, with his most productive games being Barcelona’s 5-1 away win at Villareal when he scored and assisted in his 59 minutes on the pitch and his two goals in Barca’s 5-1 home win over Sevilla, which came in just fourteen minutes. They’re indicators of what Torre can do, but the majority of the time, he’s an unused substitute.
After a productive time with former club Racing, which prompted Barcelona to buy Torre, and his loan spell at Girona last season, added to the cameos made this term, another loan move could be best for all parties, and it could happen in the January transfer window.
So it will be interesting to see what happens and if sports pundits and related sports betting markets can provide more insight into this option. Barca didn’t splash major cash on Torre, but he’s an asset, a young player with a high ceiling, and they will naturally want to protect and grow their asset.
Torre himself is a twenty-one-year-old who has proven himself capable of playing at the top level in Spain, and this is likely to be where he’s playing in the second half of 2024/25, albeit for a different club temporarily.
The attacking midfielder will want to be playing week in and week out, starting games, and a raft of La Liga teams will be on hand to make that a reality. Real Sociedad, who are currently battling for a European football finish in La Liga have been registered with an interest in Torre before, and it could be a good match.
Torre going and playing for one of Spanish football’s top teams will be more productive than heading to a club further down the league. Barcelona will want their young star to return to them ready to play more regularly and to aid them in their quest for trophies and titles after all.
