21-year-old Barcelona winger could step up in light of French star’s departure – report

FC Barcelona are on the verge of potentially losing one of their greatest assets within the current squad in the shape of French winger Ousmane Dembele, a loss that would carry signifying consequences.

Xavi’s own discovery of gold at Barcelona, the Frenchman found his best form in all his years at the club under the tutelage of the new Catalan coach. His influence within the current system is massively important, and losing him to PSG will take its toll.

In the scenario that he does end up leaving, which is beginning to look quite possible, Barcelona will need to find an adequate replacement in terms of both style and quality to minimize the damage that can be expected from his departure.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, however, Barcelona may not have to look further than their own squad. Moroccan winger Ez Abde is a player that the report claims could finally have his chance to shine in Blaugrana colors and showcase how he can take over from the possibly departing Frenchman.

Stylistically, the 21-year-old has the most similar influence to Dembele and also possesses that unnerving edge to his play that made the French winger such a favorite of Xavi’s.

Originally expected to depart for either Real Betis or one of the other many interested clubs, it appears that the closer Dembele gets to leaving, the closer Abde gets to remaining at Barcelona to provide relief at a moment of difficulty.

Other wingers such as Raphinha, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, and even Lamine Yamal are also there within the ranks to take over, but it appears that the Barcelona player most likely to get his breakthrough as Barca’s primary traditional winger will be the Moroccan talent himself.
