22-year-old Barcelona defender set to return from AC Milan – report

Barcelona defender Sergino Dest

Keeping in mind that the majority of players FC Barcelona sent out on loan were considered by the club as surplus to requirements at the given moment and are better off developing within other sides for now or leaving permanently.

The cases of Nico and Abde are ones where FC Barcelona believe there exists future potential and Xavi Hernandez would be willing to incorporate them within the first team dynamics for the upcoming pre-season, but there may just be a third who possibly joins them over the summer.

According to the latest revelations by SPORT, American right-back Sergino Dest could be set to return to parent club FC Barcelona following a rather disappointing loan spell at Italian Serie A side AC Milan.

Tumbling out of the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stages and losing out on the Serie A title to a dominant Napoli side, AC Milan saw a very promising season not amount to much in terms of silverware.

Moreover, Sergino Dest was not all too important for the Italian side on an individual level either. Playing a rather meager estimate of around 633 minutes for the side spread across 14 different appearances, it became apparent that the red and blacks of Milan did not hold the American international in high regard.

As a result, the Italian side have decided against making use of the player’s purchase option that would see them acquire the right-back permanently in exchange for €20 million, a figure that AC Milan possibly do not consider worthwhile spending for his talents.

Moreover, at the moment it seems that no team at all is interested in the acquisition of Sergino Dest as neither a loan nor on a permanent basis, leaving behind a return to Barcelona itself the most feasible option at the moment.

Having arrived from Ajax in 2020 for a transfer fee of around €25 million including variables, the American has not had a rather successful time in either Barcelona or Milan, and his future at the moment remains up in the air as the Catalan club would ideally offload him as soon as they could, with him staying at the side being more of a last resort as seen right now.
