22-year-old Barcelona fullback attracts the interest of PSV – report

The higher-ups of FC Barcelona continue to work with urgency to wrap up ongoing transfer operations that require immediate attention, both those of incoming arrivals as well as necessary departures to open up the salary margin and generate additional funds.

Two players in particular that Barcelona has long been working on releasing from the club are French defender Clement Lenglet and American right-back Sergino Dest.

While the Frenchman’s case seems more straightforward given that several clubs are interested in his signature as per various sources, the case of the latter has proven to be more difficult for Barcelona to take care of given the lack of offers.

However, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, it would appear that the player has invited the interest of Dutch club PSV Eindhoven who currently play in the Dutch Eredivisie, a league that the Barcelona fullback remains all too familiar with having played for Ajax.

As per the report in question, PSV would be willing to take over a large part of the player’s dedicated salary, close to a value of €10.4 million, the Dutch side also have a priority game up ahead against Scottish club Rangers to clash in the final UEFA Champions League playoff at the Philips Stadium.

The 22-year-old also has eyes on French club Nice and reported interest from the English Premier League, but their attention towards the Barcelona player is not nearly as advanced as that showcased by PSV Eindhoven.

Contractually obligated to FC Barcelona until 2025, the Catalan giants consider him to now be surplus to requirements given that they are already in the market for a top-level fullback, with Joao Cancelo as an advanced option to take over, and believe Dest’s departure would allow for breathing room within the salary margin and enable Barcelona to register the remaining players.
