Barcelona defender Sergino Dest

22-year-old defender has already left Barcelona to join PSV on loan – Romano

The right-back problem at FC Barcelona finally seems to be nearing a successful solution, as the Catalans are reported to be close to an agreement for their main right-back target, Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo’s arrival will finally provide Xavi with a natural and competent right-back, who can contribute to the attack in a way that Xavi requires his fullbacks to.

However, Barcelona still have to offload some of their players which will allow them to create enough space in their wage bill to register Cancelo and the other currently unregistered players.

There is good news awaiting Barcelona fans in this regard as well, as another right-back, Sergino Dest, is nearing a move away from the club.

Despite a loan stint at AC Milan last year, he failed to captivate the Italian giants with his performances. Given another chance by the Catalan club to make an impression on Xavi during the pre-season, he once again fell short of seizing this opportunity.

Barcelona and Eindhoven in agreement for Dest’s loan

Now, the trusted journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has provided further details about his proposed move to the Dutch side. Romano claims that Barcelona and PSV already have an agreement in place for the loan of the player, and Eindhoven will have a purchase option on the player after the end of the loan.

Furthermore, Barcelona will keep on paying 50% of the player’s wages. The purchase option for Eindhoven is not mandatory, but if the Dutch club is satisfied with Dest’s performances, they can pay €10 million to get him permanently next summer.

Thus, Barcelona seem to be on track to solve their right-back problems this summer. Barcelona are reported to be already in an agreement in principle for Joao Cancelo, and will have enough cover available with players like Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, and Jules Kounde even if Dest is sent on loan for this season.
