Given that the final few days of the summer window are upon FC Barcelona, it was expected that various operations would be accelerated in the final hours of the window, and emergency departures and arrivals are not something Barcelona are a stranger to when it comes to deadline day deals.
With the latest reports offering information regarding the potential new destinations for the likes of French defender Clement Lenglet, Spanish veteran Marcos Alonso, and even young Moroccan winger Ez Abde, Barcelona are also reportedly in the market to finalize an operation for the departure of former Manchester City defender, Eric Garcia.
According to the latest update on the future of the 22-year-old defender provided by Gerard Romero, the player’s agent is soon set to hold a meeting with FC Barcelona to finalize the understanding regarding his client’s future at the Catalan club.
The agent in question is Ivan De La Pena, who coincidentally also manages the case of his other Barcelona players Pablo Gavi and La Masia youngster Aleix Garrido. Being a former Blaugrana himself, his connections are strong with the Catalan outfit.
This news does not come as a surprise given that recent circulations of rumors suggested that the 22-year-old defender had attracted heavy interest from fellow Catalan club Girona.
Moreover, reports suggested that the Spaniard would not oppose the prospect of playing for the side given his lack of minutes at FC Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez at the moment.
The arrivals this summer also do not help the case of the defender. With the likes of former Athletic Bilbao guardian Inigo Martinez and soon-to-arrive Portuguese international Joao Cancelo, the chances for Garcia begin to thin out more and more.
Eric Garcia originally arrived at FC Barcelona in June of 2021 as a free transfer from English Premier League side Manchester City. He was expected to come with great promise attached to his name given the praise he had previously received from former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.
However, his life as a Blaugrana has not been smooth sailing thus far and it appears that a departure is much closer to fruition than the prospect of him continuing with the Catalan club in the future despite having a contract in place that expires in 2026.
