Barcelona forward Ferran Torres

22-years-old Barcelona forward determined to succeed at Camp Nou amid exit speculations

Ferran Torres arrived in FC Barcelona in January 2022, for €55 million, with much promise and expectations about his potential. However, things have not turned out to the expectations of the club and the player himself, leading to rumors of him being placed on the market by the club.

Torres came to FC Barcelona with much fanfare and quickly became a starter in Xavi’s line-up. His performances in this initial period, however, were far from convincing. These below-average performances, coupled with the arrival of new forwards in Raphinha and Lewandowski, pushed Torres downward in the pecking order, with Xavi preferring other forwards like Dembele, Raphinha, and Lewandowski for the starting 11.

Torres’ form dropped to such an extent after the World Cup that he is now almost last in the FC Barcelona forwards pecking order. The player has not had a league start since November, but SPORT report that he is confident that he can turn this around and regain Xavi’s faith.

His lack of minutes at FC Barcelona has also alerted other major clubs, including some from the Premier League and Atletico de Madrid from La Liga. However, SPORT further report that the player himself is clear in his mind that he wants to stay at FC Barcelona and become an important part of the new project.

On the other hand, FC Barcelona does not seem to be too keen to keep him at all costs, and their purchase option on Yannick Carrasco included in the Memphis Depay’s deal can result in Torres possibly going the other way.
