Confidence is key to a player’s progression, and clubs like FC Barcelona are a stage where even the toughest of players can break from the pressure. As such, to survive and thrive at such huge European stages, players need to remain consistent and showcase their qualities at the highest level possible.

Certain players, due to time away from the pitch or simply a lack of encouragement from their surroundings, often lose sight of their own capabilities. One such talent that had a rather lackluster 2022/23 season in a similar scenario was Barcelona winger Ferran Torres.

However, the story for this season has been quite the opposite. Having already been the topscorer for FC Barcelona during pre-season, he has also been one of the most efficient forwards in the team during the official 2023/24 La Liga campaign thus far despite the few minutes that he has been awarded.

As a result of his great work at club level, the Spaniard was called up to the Spanish National team by new head coach Luis de la Fuente for his first appearance at the international level since the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking up regarding his sublime performance for Spain in the game against Cyprus with Teledeporte, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the player spoke on various topics during the interview.

A brace against Cyprus in his latest appearance for Spain to back up his ever-ascending confidence, the Barcelona forward highlighted how important he considered it to make sure he utilized the minutes he was given:

“If there’s one thing I’m working on, it’s making the most of the minutes I get to gain the coach’s confidence. I think I’m on the right track.”

Afforded only 29 minutes against Spain’s most recent opponent, his two goals came within the span of 10 minutes of each other during the clash.

The 23-year-old Spaniard was invited back into the team primarily because of injuries to other key forwards, but the Barcelona forward believes that whatever the reasoning may be for his inclusion, he is determined to make the most of the opportunity:

“In the end, I have to do the work at my club to earn the reward of coming to the national team. In this case, it was due to a teammate’s injury, but whenever I’m called up, I’ll give it my all.”

Despite his own impressive feats this season for both Barcelona and Spain thus far, he made sure to commend the collective contributions and importance of the Spanish National team as a unit much more than anything else:

“The most important thing is the victory, both games were won by the national team, and now it’s time to return to my club and keep working.”
