FC Barcelona have high expectations of their ongoing campaign as they look to compete in various competitions. The Catalan giants are assured with the depth and quality of their squad to achieve these different objectives. However, some players have been individually crucial as well.
In the UEFA Champions League, in particular, Barcelona aspire to improve on their recent seasons. Interestingly, it would seem that they are halfway there already. From their first three games in Group H, the Catalans have managed to win all three.
However, two games out of those three were won by a singular goal being the difference. Against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Montjuic Stadium, and against FC Porto at the Estadio de Dragao. In both those clashes, one particular name that remained consistent was Ferran Torres.
As highlighted by SPORT, Ferran Torres scored one goal in each game that proved to be decisive for the Blaugranes. Moreover, both goals were the opening goals of these two games.
Against Porto, in the 1-0 victory, Ferran Torres was the difference maker. Then again while facing Shakhtar Donetsk, he scored the opening goal for Barcelona as well. In terms of points, the Spaniard has won the Catalan giants 6 out of the 9 points they have won.
Moreover, the 23-year-old’s goal ratio is also among the finest in Europe within the Champions League. With a goal every 70 minutes, Ferran Torres has the best ratio within the Barcelona team from amongst players that have at least 250 minutes in the European competition.
Within the last two seasons, Torres has added 5 goals to his European tally. Within eight games, he has scored five in the UEFA Champions League. Moreover, even in the Europa League for Barça, the Spaniard scored against both Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt.
It’s safe to say, that European competitions seem to be the ‘Shark’s’ favorite platform. Scoring for fun in the past, Barcelona will be hoping he keeps those numbers consistent this season as well.
