Ferran Torres has been a recurring name in recent news reports. Rumored to hit the exit door, Barcelona appear to be studying offers for most fringe players in their squad, and one of the individuals who failed to find regularity this season was Ferran.
However, despite being heavily linked with Aston Villa, it seems that the Spanish forward is, in actuality, unaware of all the prattle about a potential departure to the ‘Villains’. With his heart set in Barcelona and great ambitions to make a name for himself in the Spanish League, continuing at the Catalan club is his dream.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Ferran is intent on persisting for another season. With competition rising and Barcelona needing a departure to ease their finances, a departure looked highly probable. Even so, Ferran aims to rise above the competition.
In favor of his case, Xavi has always spoken highly of the 23-year-old. The coach values his off-ball expertise and movements that do not always take the spotlight.
In February after a dazzling performance against Cadiz, Xavi spoke highly of his player: “I’m especially happy for Ferran. He always works for the team, he sacrifices himself. His attitude is a 10/10. People rate him based on his goals, dribbles, and assists, but from the coaching staff we see other things in him.”
In addition to being valued behind closed doors, Ferran’s links to Aston Villa have also died down due to Mateu Alemany being taken granted for as the Birmingham-based club’s next sporting director. In order to not interfere with his own players (considering he still has a summer transfer to work on), Alemany hopes to reduce suspicion of his next club.
In spite of inconsistencies in play time and a long road ahead before achieving a starting spot, Ferran is keen on staying and does not currently contemplate joining Villa.
