FC Barcelona brought in some key reinforcements over the course of the summer transfer window. While many positions were reinforced, the arrival of two Portuguese stars on deadline day was arguably the great boost Barcelona so desperately needed.
The Catalan giants had sincerely awaited the arrivals of both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, and their entrance was nothing short of a dynamic one. However, things have settled down a bit since, particularly in the case of 23-year-old Joao Felix.
As highlighted by Spanish outlet SPORT, Felix may not be adding direct goal contributions in recent games but he has still been vital to this Barcelona side. Even against Granada in the latest outing, Felix was consistently the most unsettling player for the opposition to keep up with and he came up with some creative openings of his own but was denied on several occasions.
Ultimately, he did end up initially scoring the third goal that would have completed Barca’s ‘Remontada’, but it was not to be as referee Soto Grado disallowed it for Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres being in an offside position. However, it does not take away from his influence even apart from that.
While the Portuguese star may have to put up more numbers once again, he still remains key to Xavi. He has already developed in terms of his team play and rhythm as he has progressed and understands Barca’s style of play much better now.
As it stands, Felix currently has 3 goals and 2 assists across all competitions for Barcelona. He would definitely like to add to that tally, but his role within the team is growing nonetheless as he acts as an asset both to the balance of the midfield and the cutting edge of the frontline.
He even showcased his dedication to the Barcelona cause following the draw to Granada, stating on social media: “There is still a lot left to play for in the league (La Liga). Together. Visca el Barca!”
Barcelona and Felix will now have to wait for around 14 days before they next play together. For now, the international break kicks in and gives both the players and the coaching staff time to reflect and decide how to move forward from here.
