Football can be cruel to many, but in this cruelty, at times there are diamonds to be found, and it seems FC Barcelona may have. No longer a player of the Blaugrana, this particular young defender still does hold a direct connection to the Catalans regarding his transfer.
Currently plying his trade for OGC Nice, 23-year-old French central defender Jean-Clair Todibo has had quite the success in Ligue 1 this season. With a rapid progression in terms of his quality and subsequent performances, the player continues to attract significant interest from some of Europe’s top teams.
As per the reports from SPORT, the French defender can be regarded as one of the best central defenders in the French league and his transfer could see FC Barcelona benefit massively.
When he was first transferred to OGC Nice from the Catalans in the summer of 2021, the French club had to pay up a fee of around €15 million including variables.
Moreover, Nice had to agree to a particular clause that FC Barcelona managed to put in; should the player ever be transferred following his arrival in Nice, a 20% cut from any future sale income will go directly to FC Barcelona.
For now, with the player valued at €30 million by Transfermarkt, SPORT expects the French defender to attract offers of around €45 million from some major English sides. Furthermore, should a bidding start on the player, this amount would only rise.
According to information shared by reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, the interested clubs include the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United. With finances not particularly an issue for most English clubs, them being willing to acquire him for an amount close to the one SPORT reports would not be surprising.
Hypothetically, if the player does end up selling for the reported asking amount, it would see FC Barcelona land a sizeable €9 million following his sale. This in turn would take the total amount that the Catalans have managed to earn off of him to be around €24 million.
