23-year-old left-footed defender reaches verbal agreement to join Barcelona in summer

Barcelona target Evan Ndicka

FC Barcelona are having a season to remember, and one of the keys to their success up to this point in the season is their high-performing defense. However, despite the presence of a successful defensive formula for Xavi, the club is in the market again for a defender to further cement the backline.

The case for FC Barcelona’s defense this season is pretty obvious. La Blaugrana have kept 16 clean sheets up to now and conceded only a measly 7 goals in 21 La Liga matches. Central defenders, especially Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen have kept opponents from scoring, while Jules Kounde has taken his position on the right flank to compensate for the lack of any proper Right-Back in the squad.

Alejandro Balde has also exploded this season and completed a leak proof defensive line for Xavi. While this defensive puzzle seems to be complete for now, the club still feels that it suffers from a lack of a left-footed central defender.

Now recent reports from Sport1 claim that FC Barcelona are in a great position to further bolster their defense by adding the promising 23-year-old Evan Ndicka from Eintracht Frankfurt to their squad. The report claims that the Catalans have already reached a verbal agreement with the player’s entourage, which allows them to sign him as a free agent in the next summer window, when Ndicka’s contract runs out.

Being the left-footed defender fulfills one of the major criteria for FC Barcelona to sign another defender. Still, it should be kept in mind that nothing is final for now, and FC Barcelona will make the final decision on whether to bring Evan Ndicka to Spotify Camp Nou in June when the season ends.
