FC Barcelona won the match against Villarreal after a great effort from the team. After having gone two goals up, the Catalans saw their adversaries fight back not only to equalize the score at 2-2 but also go up another goal to take the lead.
However, Barcelona ended up winning the match because of the grit and commitment shown by its players. The youngster, Lamine Yamal, had a great match, but another player who has been performing well under the radar for the last few games is the winger Ferran Torres.
Ferran Torres turns around his form in the summer
Ferran Torres was not one of the fans’ favorite players during the last season. The Spaniard had struggled to perform a decisive role on the pitch and was thus largely unable to fulfill the expectations that his €55 million price tag put on him when he was purchased from Manchester City.
However, the player has been in good form since the end of the last season, and started showing this good form in the Barcelona pre-season. As SPORT has recalled, he was the top-scorer for the team in the pre-season, with three goals in four games, despite starting only one match against AC Milan.
The Spaniard continues on his hot form
Despite this form shown by Torres, he did not start this season as a starter in Xavi’s lineup. He did not have any minutes in the first match against Getafe, but did appear as a substitute in the Cadiz match. In this second match, Torres came on in the 85th minute, and scored the final goal in the dying minutes of the match.
In the last match against Villarreal, Torres was again a substitute, as he made his way to the pitch on the 63rd minute. However, he needed only five minutes to announce himself, as he scored in the 68th minute to tie the scores for Barcelona.
Thus, Torres has already scored two goals in two games for Barcelona in this league season. His current best scoring output in La Liga is 4 goals, and he seems definitely on course to improve on this record this season.
