Tensions remain high in Barcelona, and the upcoming games are no respite. Xavi Hernandez has had to deal with much criticism in recent weeks and it seems to be a continued trend. However, the next two games will be crucial.

In light of the recent victory against Porto in the Champions League, Barcelona have afforded themselves some breathing room. Already qualified for the knockout stages, Barcelona can turn their attention back towards La Liga.

Their upcoming test will be against Atletico Madrid. Arguably one of their toughest opponents in La Liga, Barcelona will need to be at their best. Collective performance is essential, but individual blunders have often costed Barça this season.

One particular player who has been criticized frequently for this is Jules Kounde. The Frenchman has shown himself to be a bit vulnerable at times for Barcelona this season. In certain games, it has been the cover of Ronald Araujo that has kept him safe.

However, as SPORT reports, Kounde could face his ultimate test against Atletico Madrid. With Andreas Christensen already gunning to be back in the starting lineup, Kounde will face both a physical and mental test of endurance against a familiar face.

Knowing that his position and the faith from Xavi could both be in jeopardy, Kounde could head into the game already with an occupied mindset. On top of that, he will possibly have to contest constantly against Antoine Griezmann.

The French forward is in the form of his life, and his failed stint at Barcelona could give him additional motivation to perform at the Montjuic Stadium. For Kounde, keeping up with Griezmann’s mobility and slyness will be crucial.

Whereas Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo already begin to feel like guaranteed starters, Kounde’s position is more of a toss-up, on the other hand. As such, the Frenchman will need to repay Xavi’s trust, especially after being entrusted with the central position in defense.
