FC Barcelona is home to an assortment of players from all over the world, representing various countries both within Europe and those outside the continent. Representing their respective national teams remains a dream for many players, and understandably so.

And while everyone at FC Barcelona remains dedicated to helping both their club and country, the display of loyalty and commitment showcased by 24-year-old Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo is seldom seen elsewhere.

The central defender is one of the captains of FC Barcelona and a major piece of Marcelo Bielsa’s bid to make Uruguay look like significant competition in International tournaments once more. Hence, according to Spanish outlet Diario AS, they wish to call up the Uruguayan for their upcoming games.

Set to take place on the 9th and 12th of September, Uruguay will be facing off against Chile and Ecuador for their FIFA World Cup qualification. While Araujo would ideally be within that starting eleven, AS reports that Barcelona has made the officials of the Uruguayan National team aware of his injury and his inability to participate with relevant evidence.

Currently recovering from a rupture in the femoral biceps of his left leg, the Barcelona player is expected to be out of action for a month at best and according to sources, the best-case scenario would be to see him return for the first game of the UEFA Champions League group stages that is expected to take place on either the 18th or 19th of September.

The 24-year-old will undoubtedly be disheartened with the news given his dedication to his country, having reportedly asked the Barcelona medical staff if he would be able to participate in the concerned Uruguayan games on the 9th and 12th as one of the first questions following his injury.

Unable to take part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as well due to injury, the player may have to wait a little bit longer to get a shot at representing Uruguay again. As it stands, the Barcelona player could most likely show up for his National team in October, when they travel to Colombia for their next qualification game.
