Just as things looked to be getting more comfortable for Barcelona, bad omens seem to follow. First came the news about Xavi’s departure and how he plans to leave in the summer. Now, even more frustrating news has emerged from within the walls and fields of FC Barcelona.
The already lengthy list of injured superstars continues to grow longer. While Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is now expected to return soon, as confirmed by Xavi, the Spanish coach has now lost another key player all over again. This time, the news has already been confirmed by the club themselves.
As per the official FC Barcelona statement, 24-year-old Portuguese star Joao Felix has been injured. His injury came about in the latest training session being conducted ahead of the game against CA Osasuna at the Montjuic Stadium.
The details provided mention that the concerned player has been injured in his ankle. To be precise, they mention that the injury is a ligament sprain in his right ankle. The following is the club’s official statement on the matter:
“In training on Tuesday morning, the first team player João Félix sprained a ligament in his right ankle. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”
Now, it is guaranteed that he will not participate in tomorrow’s game against the opponents from Pamplona. For Barcelona, the La Liga title has already started to slip away, but Felix getting injured still hurts them as they look to at least continue fighting until the very end of the season.
Without Felix, it now looks as if the chances are primarily there for Ferran Torres to start against Osasuna. Raphinha also remains injured, so perhaps Lamine Yamal will make another start for the Catalan giants while Robert Lewandowski looks to retain his place in the center of the attack.
