With the La Liga campaign starting this Sunday for FC Barcelona, they still have to sign a right-back who can perform the role that Xavi wants from his fullbacks. This is one of the areas the club is focusing upon for the rest of this summer transfer window.
Barcelona have been linked with a number of different players for this position, but no one has been signed as yet. Xavi preferred Manchester City defender, Joao Cancelo, but his price tag made him an unappealing target for the Catalan giants.
Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid is also a contender, although his name has yet to secure unanimous approval among the higher echelons.
Another player who has been linked with the club previously is Juan Fourth from Villarreal. While his name has not been as frequently associated with the Blaugranes as these previously mentioned players, there is a big update about him.
Journalist Gerard Romero via Jijantes FC has claimed that Foyth has told Villarreal that he wants to join Barcelona this summer. As a result, the two clubs would have to arrive at an agreement for his transfer.
The Argentinean has been one of the starters for Villarreal for some seasons now, and made 30 appearances in total for the Yellow Submarines last season.
24 of these appearances came in La Liga, while 3 were in Copa del Rey, another 3 in UEFA Conference League, and 1 in UECL qualifiers. The player scored one goal and gave two assists in these appearances.
At 25 years of age, the fullback is still young and can remain at Barcelona for a long time if his transfer goes in the right direction. He has an active release clause of €54.6 million, but it remains to be seen what figure Villarreal and Barcelona will agree upon for the right-back.
