FC Barcelona always keep its attention on upcoming prospects worth snatching up. While they are still economically limited to a great degree, La Blaugrana still retains high aspirations. Regardless of their situation, there are always huge demands of a club of Barca’s stature.

To meet these expectations, investment is key. Barcelona hope to dip their feet in the summer transfer window of next year, keeping in mind their finances. However, one name that may be looking for a way out in 2024 from their current club is one that has attracted both Barca and Xavi Hernandez for quite a while.

Barcelona look towards Germany

According to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Spanish winger Dani Olmo is among those that Barcelona continues to consider for the future. A former La Masia talent himself, Olmo has been at the German club since 2020. His previous endeavors include five years at Dinamo Zagreb as well.

A Spanish international and star player for RB Leipzig, Olmo shows great quality. Able to play both as an attacking midfielder and winger, the 25-year-old is heavily valued by many of the European elites. His hattrick against Bayern Munich in August to win the DFL-Supercup was a particular highlight of his career thus far.

Renewal not a problem

Interestingly, despite having renewed his contract with Leipzig until 2027, he is reportedly willing to leave next year. Knowing that he is at an age where most clubs in Europe would come for his signature, he can not afford to wait any longer if he wants to make a big leap from his current German club.

Barcelona is a club he remains very open to, knowing full well how much he attracts them and how he would like to play once again where it all started. However, he will also remain attentive to other offers. Teams like Real Madrid, Man City, and Arsenal still keep an eye on his situation.

Injury and valuation

Currently injured and focused on coming back, Olmo will still focus on his ongoing season. Moreover, there is a €60 million release clause attached to his current contract. Not a small figure, but definitely not one that is unattainable either.

Top European sides are expected to have such an amount available for usage, even one ridden with economic hurdles. Dani Olmo is valued at €50 million by Transfermarkt at the moment. The release clause will be an amount that exceeds that valuation and will have to be assessed by Barcelona.

For now, Olmo remains a topic of discussion for Barcelona as he has for quite a while. The Catalan giants will first need to sort out what amount they can even spend next summer. Afterwards, they can fully plan out their approach to the 2024 summer window and which players they hope to pursue.

As it stands, the current priority remains that of the pivot position. With Oriol Romeu the only specialist at the moment, Barcelona will either need to bring in a new recruit or turn towards their subsidiary and academy to find the next replacement for the vulnerable pivot position.
