The Barcelona youth academy regularly churns out talents with high potential for growth. However, only a very few select players are able to make it to the first team, and even fewer are able to remain in the team long enough to etch their names in the Catalan club’s history books.
One such youth player who got the chance to showcase his talents with the Barcelona first team some years ago was the defender, Oscar Mingueza. The defender played 46 La Liga matches in the Blaugrana team in the 2020-21 and the 2021-22 seasons, but then left the club to join Celta Vigo in 2022.
In recent weeks, he has once again been linked with Barcelona, especially because of the fact that the Blaugranes can buy him back for only €9 million.
However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Spaniard made it clear that he was fully focused on his current team, and not thinking about such a move as he appeared in an interview with MARCA. In regards to his future, the Celta Vigo defender said:
“Right now, nothing worries me. I’m focused on my own path. I have things very clear, I know what I want, and right now that’s to be at Celta and have a very good season both individually and collectively. The coach and the board know what I want, I have everything very clear. I’m focused on having a good year and being at Celta.”
The former Barcelona youngster also opened up on his experience of leaving the Catalan club:
“It’s never easy to leave such a big club like Barça, with the sentimental value of having been there for 15 years. It’s something difficult, but I faced it with great enthusiasm and motivation.”
“It wasn’t hard at all, leaving my city and my team, because I had everything very clear. I knew I wanted to play, and here they welcomed me really well, and it was easier than I thought. I’m super grateful to the city, the team, my teammates, coaches… They’ve all made me feel like I’m at home.”
With the transfer window having only just closed, Mingueza’s potential return will have to wait sometime. However, with the dearth of options at the right-back position, there is no doubt that there is some space for him in the Blaugrana squad.
