Barcelona midfield target Sofyan Amrabat

26-year-old Barcelona midfield target prefers to join Spanish rivals

With several arrivals starting to be wrapped up by FC Barcelona as targeted operations inch closer and closer to finalisations, there are some other pending operations in question that seem to be drifting further and further away from the Catalan club.

By this point, it is well understood that the absolute priority for Blaugranes lies in the acquisition of a new top level defensive midfielder, who can primarily operate as a pivot, in light of the departure of club legend and veteran, Sergio Busquets, who may be changing continents for his next destination.

According to information being provided by Moroccan journalist Izem Anass, who was the source that last reported Sofyan Amrabat’s desire to join either FC Barcelona or Atletico Madrid, the player is now looking to be heading more towards Atletico Madrid rather than Barcelona.

Within their pursuit of a new pivot, Barca had a number of shortlisted candidates they were hoping to look into as replacements for Busquets. Among these, Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, currently contracted to Italian Serie A side Fiorentina until 2024, was a massive name that the club was considering.

However, what initially seemed like a destined transfer that was only a matter of time, it now seem that due to the coaching staff’s preferences suggesting that Amrabat is not the type of footballer that would adapt well in the Barcelona system, the club is no longer prioritising his arrival.

Consequently, the Moroccan pivot himself seems to have gotten the hint and now reportedly himself prefers the prospect of joining Atletico Madrid, where he potentially could receive more guarantees than in the case of Barcelona at the moment. The 26-year-old is looking for a change in scenery, and it was his own wish to join a Spanish side as per recent reports.
