Despite having shone for FC Barcelona in some of his appearances in the last few months, Franck Kessie’s time at the club has not gone exactly as planned. As a result, the club is considering whether the player would remain a part of the club for the next season.
Kessie joined FC Barcelona last summer as a free agent. His performances in his former club, AC Milan, in their quest for the Scudetto title, caught the eye of the Catalan club, in addition to a number of other clubs across Europe. However, the Ivorian chose FC Barcelona as his destination after completing his contract with the Milan side.
At the start of the season, there was much optimism in the club regarding Kessie’s role in the squad, as it was expected that he will have an impact similar to that of previous similar players like Yaya Toure and Paulinho. However, his playing style does not exactly match the profile required by Xavi in his midfield, which made it difficult for him to gain much game time in important matches.
This problem was made even worse by the performances of other young midfielders like Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong, whom Xavi considers essential components of his midfield, along with the veteran Sergio Busquets.
However, Kessie was able to play some matches in the last few months as players like Busquets, de Jong, and Pedri missed game time due to injury. Despite putting in some impressive performances in these matches, it is clear that Kessie is not a first-team player for Xavi.
As a result, his future at the Catalan club is anything but certain. He himself wants to stay with the Blaugranes and is comfortable at the club, but FC Barcelona are open to selling him if a good offer comes according to a recent report from RELEVO. Currently, interest has mostly been reported from Italy, with Inter Milan and Juventus both showing interest in the midfielder.
