Following what seems to be weeks of FC Barcelona attempting to negotiate a renewal on favorable terms with one of their most prized stars in the attack, it appears that a shocking new decision has been made.
Barcelona and the representatives of French winger Ousmane Dembele have been in contact for some time now to negotiate and progress with a deal that would have ideally seen the 26-year-old stay with the Catalan giants until at least 2027.
Now, the revelations that have arrived paint a completely shocking U-turn of a decision. As per the ever-so-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Barcelona winger has said yes to the proposal sent by French Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain, that would see the winger move to PSG and have his release clause paid.
Set at €50 million, the release clause in question is only valid till before the 1st of August. As a result, the French club moved fast in their operation to get their proposal through to the 26-year-old and FC Barcelona.
A shocking revelation, especially given that it was not too long ago that multiple reports claimed that Ousmane Dembele had said no to a ludicrous financial offer from the Middle East, yet now it seems the once immovable will to stay at Barcelona has been deterred.
Since his arrival in 2017 from German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, the player has had a mixed career in totality at FC Barcelona. Courtesy of constant injuries and a lack of momentum were some of the key factors that led to disappointing seasons at times.
However, it has been under the tutelage of new manager Xavi Hernandez that the French winger was able to find his best form in terms of both performances on the field as well as on the front of physical fitness and resistance to injury.
Now, it appears that on a personal level, the player and PSG have come into agreement for the transfer of the 26-year-old to Paris. A player of evident importance to both Xavi and Barcelona, it remains to be seen exactly how the Catalans make their next move.
