While the incoming arrivals from other top sides remain a priority for FC Barcelona, the Catalan club continues to work towards settling the various hurdles and disputes concerning the contracts of players already with them.
Chief amongst them came the primary duty to register players that had already renewed contracts with the club but were yet to be registered. While the club continues to tend to those, Barcelona also prioritizes the renewal of a key player for Xavi Hernandez.
The concerned player being none other than French winger Ousmane Dembele, who has enjoyed a rekindling of sorts under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, coming into his best period at Barcelona in terms of both fitness and sporting development.
While his contract is set to run out in 2024, the latest report from SPORT states that the player himself wishes to continue at the club and has informed Xavi Hernandez himself of this decision of his before leaving for his vacation.
As per the report, Barcelona already have in mind the proposal they are set to present to the 26-year-old winger and his representatives. A renewal that would see the Frenchman extend his stay with La Blaugrana until 2027, and be awarded a salary that would increase annually, with him potentially becoming one of the side’s highest earners at one point.
Moreover, Barcelona will look to make it absolutely certain that the winger will be a starter in Xavi’s plans and his participation will be definite.
Looking to assemble a competitive team all around, Xavi Hernandez and the higher-ups at Barcelona consider renewing Dembele an absolute priority. With a release clause of €50 million set to be intact until mid-July of this year, there were prior concerns that some clubs would take advantage of this rather appealing prospect of being able to sign the player for less than his current market value.
Reportedly, next week will be crucial for both concerned parties. As the soon-to-be Barcelona Sporting Director, Deco believes it best to have the future of the player sorted prior to the pre-season so as to avoid heading into the final year of his contract with uncertainty and avoid the problems that arose during their last contract negotiations.
