After having been linked with a number of players over the last few months, FC Barcelona have finally signed a midfield pivot in Oriol Romeu. While Romeu was not the most glittering of names associated with Barcelona for this position, his low price and Xavi’s confidence in his skills made him an effective choice for the Catalan club.
However, with his signing, the road for some other players who wanted to play at the Camp Nou has been blocked for now. One such player is the Moroccan Sofyan Amrabat, who has seen his stock rise phenomenally since the last world cup, and who was also linked with FC Barcelona for the midfield pivot position.
According to SPORT, the player has still not given up hopes of joining the Blaugranes though. Their report mentions that the midfielder appeared in an interview, in which he claimed that he is still waiting for FC Barcelona.
He was asked about his idols when he was growing up, to which he responded with the names of Zidane and Xavi. Upon hearing the name of the former Barcelona midfielder, the interviewer told him that Xavi would be the one training him if Amrabat moved to Barcelona. To this, the player responded with the quip, “1 + 1 equals 2, eh?”, implying he has already considered this possibility.
The interviewer, a social media influencer with the alias BlackCoco, has himself reported that the Moroccan is doing everything in his power to ensure a move to Camp Nou later in his career. The player is willing to wait for Barcelona in the next winter transfer window, and even till the next summer when his contract with Fiorentina would come to an end.
The Moroccan is only waiting for a gesture from Barcelona to start doing his part to facilitate a move. This summer, Barcelona had already tried to sign the player and had negotiated with Fiorentina to get the player for around €20 million, but the entry of Manchester United resulted in Barcelona withdrawing their interest in the player.
