Barcelona remain adamant that despite their various economic difficulties, they can still muster the economic funds required by the end of the transfer window to ensure a top-level signing.
However, the top-level signing that Xavi Hernandez has in mind in particular currently hails from Manchester City and is one of the most sought-after names in European football at this point in time.
28-year-old Manchester City midfielder and Portuguese star Bernardo Silva remain the highest priority target for Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez as per numerous reports, but it seems a new hurdle may yet arise.
As per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, it appears that Manchester City have finally broken through to Bernardo Silva, a player who seemed set to leave the club up until just a few weeks ago, into getting closer and closer to staying put at Manchester City itself, as the Citizens have decided to put the player off-limits for any transfer.
The report suggests that Manchester City manager and former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola may have had a huge say in the matter as well given his reluctance to let the midfielder go due to his massive importance to the team.
If this news is confirmed to be true and the 28-year-old star decides to stay at Manchester City, Barcelona will be dealt a massive blow.
However, that will not stop the pursuit from the perspective of the Catalans according to the same report, as Xavi remains adamant that if Barcelona are to go all out for one player before the end of the window, it has to be Silva.
Yet, it must be kept in mind that even in that situation, Barcelona will still face stiff competition from both French club Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, both of whom have far greater economic flexibility than Barcelona can afford at the moment.
