There are many greats within FC Barcelona that have managed to spark the new generation of upcoming footballers. Many stars of today were once awestruck children in front of the television watching greats before them perform the wonders they aspire to achieve themselves today.
Greats like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Maradona, and Lionel Messi are just a few of the historic names at FC Barcelona that have managed to immortalize themselves in the hearts of the new generations.
While many players have revealed their favorite idols over the years, it appears that a particular German star from Bayern Munich is also among those who have looked up to a specific Barcelona legend.
In a recent quick interview session on Bayern Munich’s official YouTube channel, 28-year-old Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich was asked regarding his favorite footballing idol. In response, the German National team captain provided an answer that fans of La Blaugrana will have their ears perked to:
“Idol? Xavi Hernandez from Barcelona.”
This recent interview snipped is now seemingly gaining more and more attention especially because of recent reports suggesting that Kimmich would be open to a move away from Bayern, where he seems to be not having his best moment and may even look favorably at a change of scenery.
Prior reports have also speculated that he would be quite open to the prospect of training and playing under his idol, Xavi Hernandez, at FC Barcelona in the near future and this recent answer specifying the Barca head coach as his idol will only possibly add fuel to the pre-existing fire.
Kimmich was one of the primary targets for FC Barcelona over the course of this recent summer transfer window as well to replace Sergio Busquets. However, due to the complicated financial demands put forth by Bayern Munich for their player alongside their reluctance to even let him leave, Barcelona were unable to make a proper advance on any front at all.
