It is a common trend to see FC Barcelona work on signing low-cost players in recent windows. Due to the club’s limited financial prowess to make major signings, it has proven to be an effective enough alternative option. Moreover, most of such deals that Barcelona managed to complete turned out to be rather impactful.

Whether it is the signing of players like Pau Victor, or arrivals such as Andreas Christensen or Ilkay Gundogan, the low-risk and high-reward combination has proven to be quite the solid decision from the Catalan giants. Now, moving forward, they have no plans of abandoning such an effective method.

The free agent market is one that is always quite attractive for any club, and it makes sense for teams to make quicker decisions than normal to secure top players who do end up in this specific category. For Barcelona, one such player currently plays his football over in the Bundesliga.

Jonathan Tah, aged 28, is a centre-back for Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen, and is one of the standout players in his position over in Germany. However, according to Jijantes, the interest from Barcelona has now taken a more advanced form and a deal between the player and the Catalan club is reportedly almost finalized by now.

That is because, as per the report, Barcelona director Deco recently met with a representative from the player’s agency over in Leverkusen, and the feelings so far have been quite positive. Given that Pini Zahavi, the player’s primary agent, already has a great relationship with Barcelona, it made sense for the negotiations to be rather smooth.

With both parties quite satisfied with the way that the negotiations went, it is believed that the player’s arrival as a free agent is more or less finalized by now. It remains to be seen how things advance from here, but the ball well and truly seems to be in Barça’s court.
